How do I refine my search?
A job search begins by selecting your profession, and initially shows all results for that profession across Ontario.

To narrow your search based on criteria - such as type of role, setting, employer, or location - select your preferences for one or more filters on the left side of the screen. You must click Update Search each time you change your search parameters.

To narrow geographically, you can simply click and scroll on the map to pan and zoom across the province, or choose a particular community from the Location filter. Widen your search of a particular area by choosing a Distance parameter, or by holding CTRL and scrolling out on the map.

Search by Employer Name: Enter part or all of an organization name. Search terms must be typed exactly as entered by the employer. If your search does not return the expected results, check spelling or try searching part of the employer name. E.g. "ABC & District Hospital" - try searching just "ABC" or "Hospital".

Job Type is based on the employer’s definition of Full Time, Part Time, Locum, Casual, Contract, etc.

Tip: Choosing Full Time or Part Time will return all postings that are Full Time, Part Time, or Full Time or Part Time. Choosing Locum will return all types of locum postings.

Locums: A locum physician assumes another physician’s clinical duties on a temporary basis. Locum postings can be one of three different types:
  1. Locum
  2. Locum – NSLP
  3. Locum – RFMLP
The Northern Specialist Locum Programs (NSLP) and Rural Family Medicine Locum Program (RFMLP) are locum reimbursement programs administered by Ontario Health (HealthForceOntario).

Search by Locum Dates: Locum postings with one or more date ranges that fall within or overlap your specified date(s) will appear in your search results.

Tip: A locum posting may include several listed date ranges when the employer requires locum coverage.

Practice Type: When posting a Family Medicine position, employers have the following options for practice type:
  • Clinic only
  • Clinic plus optional ED, in-patient, LTC, OB, AN, etc.
  • Comprehensive (clinic plus required ED, in-patient, LTC, or OB, etc.)
  • ED only
  • Family Practice Anaesthesia
  • Hospitalist only
  • Other
Tip: ED = Emergency Department, LTC = Long-Term Care, OB = Obstetrics and Gynecology, AN = Anaesthesia, and “Other” is appropriate for house calls, surgical assist, palliative care, etc.

Supervision: Supervision for physician opportunities refers to a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) requirement for physicians who are eligible for restricted registration through one of the CPSO’s registration policies. See CPSO Guidelines for College-Directed Supervision for more information, or e-mail info-hfo@ontariohealth.ca.

Teaching Opportunity and/or Research Opportunity: Some physician opportunities may include teaching or research at a local university, college or institute or through distributed education.
